š Fun Is a Health Strategy
Somewhere along the way, āfunā got replaced with āproductive.ā
Amiright?
We traded dance floors for deadlines, laughter for logistics, and play for āpersonal development.ā š„±
Then out of the blue, your body starts sending messages.
You feel tired, drained, and disconnected.
You start wondering, āIs this all there is?ā
You think maybe you need more restā¦but maybe what you need is more joy.
ā” The Physiology of Fun
When youāre laughing, moving, or doing something that lights you up, your brain releases dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocināthe same neurotransmitters that boost motivation, connection, and resilience.
Youāre literally rewiring your nervous system away from stress and back toward vitality.
Fun isnāt frivolous. It helps your body regulate.
Itās what brings your hormones, your mood, and your spirit back into alignment.
š The Fun Deficit
Many clients I work with donāt realize how long itās been since theyāve felt playful.
They say things like:
āI used to be so spontaneous.ā
āI donāt even know what I like anymore.ā
Somewhere between caregiving, careers, and keeping everything together, silliness slipped off the priority list.
But the good news is that fun is a muscle.
It comes back quickly once you start using it again.
šæ Start Small
Fun doesnāt have to mean margaritas and Vegas (unless thatās your vibeā¦no judgment here because I literally just did that earlier this year lol).
It can be:
Singing in the car
Dancing while you cook dinner
Taking a spontaneous day trip
Brunch with friends
Saying yes to something ridiculous
You donāt have to wait for the perfect circumstances or the perfect weekend.
Just do something without overthinking it. Be a rebel.
Your nervous system will thank you.
So will your inner child.
š« A Gentle Reminder
Sometimes we forget that joy is a spiritual practice.
When you let yourself have fun, you tell your body itās safe. Itās a reminder that life doesnāt have to be taken so seriously (no one gets out alive!).
When you laugh, you tell your brain that itās not just about surviving, itās about experiencing.
Fun brings you back to aliveness.
And what better way to feel present.
š Ready to have more fun?
When I work with clients, I always encourage them to make time for joy. Iām a firm believer in fun as medicine.
Working with me doesnāt have to be serious all the time. In fact, I will make sure itās not. š
